On 16-18 October, we held our Latin American regional conference in Panama City. With 20 delegates in attendance, this was the first time our Latin American members had met face-to-face for three years.
The conference was opened by keynote speaker, Carlos Barsallo, the President of the Institute of Corporate Governance in Panama who presented a session on ‘Latest trends in corporate governance’ looking at some of the latest amendments to corporate governance principles as well as what is happening with sustainability reporting.
We were very pleased to have Arc Capital join the conference where Christian Vivas and Jesus Hoyos led an engaging session on the benefits of strategic synergies for companies in Latin America working with global boutique investment banks.
In the afternoon, Paul Wan, Managing Partner of Paul Wan & Co, and Chair of Morison Global shared his vast experience on building a corporate finance practice, this followed with a group discussion discussing the related challenges and opportunities.
We were delighted to welcome Catherine Nouel from Dale Carnegie, who led a highly interactive workshop on promoting employee engagement in multigenerational and diverse environments. This session explored the different generations that co-exist in our working environments and what their main characteristics are, to understand them better and focus on their strengths. The workshop also looked at the importance of engagement for retention, and understanding the positive impact of diversity on business results.
After the professional sessions, delegates enjoyed an afternoon networking during a visit to the Miraflores Locks and the world-famous work of engineering, the Panama Canal, and then exploring the Old Quarter of Panama City.
Thanks to all our speakers for joining us and making the conference an engaging, lively and successful event. Thanks also to our colleagues at our conference host firm Urbina & Associates for their assistance and support with the organisation and logistics. Lastly thanks to all our members for travelling to Panama and making this a memorable, fun and successful conference!
