On Thursday 12 June, we will hold the first ever Morison Global Day – a day for the Association to celebrate its values in action and to share some of the Impact Initiatives our members are delivering to create positive social, environmental, or economic change in their local communities.
The Global Office team will be spending the day volunteering in the community on a sustainability/environmental project in London and we welcome members to join us, either in London, or by carrying out their own activity on the same day. We will also use this as an opportunity to share some of the amazing work our members are already doing in their communities. Here are some more recent examples of our members' great work!

Ormerod Rutter, UK: 40 Years of Giving Back
Ormerod Rutter's culture is one of inclusivity, support, and shared success. This philosophy extends beyond their client relationships and team dynamics to embrace the local community as well.
As one of the largest employers in their area, Ormerod Rutter recognises that the local community comprises their team members, clients, and their families and friends; the very people who have contributed to their growth and success over four decades.
"These are the communities that helped us get to where we are today," says Senior Partner, Colm McGrory. "Giving back isn't just the right thing to do—it's a huge part of who we are as an organisation."
Ormerod Rutter has always played a large part in their local community activity, but for their milestone 40th anniversary year, they wanted to create something truly special. In 2024, they pledged to support 40 local teams, organisations, or projects to mark their four decades in business. They were delighted to have not only met, but surpassed this target.
Their community engagement takes many forms. They've provided sponsorships to numerous grassroots sports teams, community groups, and local events, helping to sustain activities that bring people together and promote well-being. Through both financial donations and volunteer time, they've supported local charities addressing critical needs in their community. Many of their partners serve as trustees for local charities and not-for-profit organisations, contributing their professional expertise to strengthen these vital community institutions.
Their commitment to the next generation is evident in their educational initiatives. Team members regularly participate in mentoring sessions at local schools, lead online workshops for university students, and attend careers events to guide young people considering careers in finance and accounting.
Highlights from their Anniversary Year
Several initiatives stand out from their community work over the past 12 months:
When a team member received care from a local hospice, they organised a charity football match to give back. The event brought together staff, clients, and community members, raising over £3,000 for the hospice's continuing care programs.
As the headline sponsor of their town's annual food festival, they not only provided financial support but also had team members volunteer at the event. They utilised this platform to raise additional funds for a local charity, combining community celebration with purposeful giving.
Ormerod Rutter also proudly partnered with a local hospice, St Richards, to sponsor their main fundraising campaign for 2024, helping to ensure that vital end-of-life care remains available in their community.
Their annual Christmas collection for the local foodbank saw exceptional participation this year. The generous donations from the team helped numerous local families experiencing food insecurity during the holiday season.
While their community activities may seem separate from their professional services, they see them as fundamental to their business ethos. By helping the local community thrive, they contribute to a stronger economic and social environment that benefits everyone—including their business.
"Our staff take immense pride in participating in these initiatives," Ormerod Rutter Marketing Manager, Amy Cooper, notes. "It creates a sense of purpose and community that extends beyond their day-to-day professional responsibilities and strengthens our team culture."
As they look beyond their 40th anniversary, Ormerod Rutter remains committed to being not just in the community, but genuinely part of it—continuing their tradition of giving back to the people and places that have supported them throughout their journey.

Hayes Knight, Australia: Supporting “School for Life Foundation”
School for Life is a small charitable foundation that started 16 years ago in Australia. Founded by a young lady in her 20’s, Annabelle Chauncy, saw the level of poverty in Uganda and the fact that many of the children failed to obtain a basic education. Many children, particularly girls, did not attend school due to the danger of being assaulted travelling to the nearest school.
Annabelle, having then recently graduated from University in Australia decided she needed to do something about it – this was the birth of the School for Life Foundation.
Its vision is to educate poverty out of existence.
With a view that education was the most powerful lever to create systemic change and by providing education to children, would allow them to grow and be able to better manage and control their futures. Today School for Life operate 3 campuses in Uganda educating more than 4,500 students. This includes providing boarding facilities for some of the students. The development and operation of the campuses is funded by the Foundation which relies upon donations from its supporters in Australia.
Hayes Knight were ‘blown away’ by the vision of School for Life, and the force of nature that Annabelle is. This is a very small charity, by Australian standards, but it has a powerful presence and achieves very meaningful outcomes.
Greg Hayes said: "Hayes Knight has been involved with the Foundation for around 6 years. Having a strong commitment to education and professional training, we understand and are committed to the change that education and professional development can make. In Australia we almost take a good education for granted. However, we understand that this is not available in a number of countries. As part of our social commitment, it was important for us to support a cause that delivers meaningful change, but could also be easily overlooked.
One of the major fundraising initiatives of School for Life is their annual Gala Ball. Hayes Knight is a major sponsor of the ball. The main purpose of the ball is to bring together supporters of the Foundation and to raise money for its ongoing operation. This month the Ball was held in Sydney with just over 650 people attending. On the evening just over $3.1 million was raised. This provides a major contribution to the operation of the campuses in Uganda.
On the evening, Samuel, one of the teachers in Uganda spoke of what the schools meant to the children and his experience of being both a student and a later a teacher. Listening to his story only reinforced the value of this cause that we strongly support.

Their Director of Client Services has taken part in multiple marathons for Michael Crawford’s Children’s Charity, raising over £2,900.
As NLP moves forward, they are excited to refine their approach to charitable giving by selecting one primary charity to support each year. This will allow them to maximise impact, ensuring that efforts are as effective and meaningful as possible. They look forward to working together as a firm to support a cause that aligns with our values and brings positive change to the wider community.
Themed Roundtables
NLP recently hosted a successful round table in recognition of Black History Month, where employees had the opportunity to share their perspectives, personal stories, and insights. The discussions were deeply enriching, allowing them to reflect on the importance of representation, inclusivity, and how they can continue to create a supportive workplace.
They also hosted a round table for International Women's Day. This session will serve as a space to discuss the experiences of women in the workplace, the challenges they face, and how they can collectively contribute to gender equality within their company.
Beyond these events, NLP also plan to hold additional round tables to highlight other important topics and celebrate diversity throughout the year.
Net Zero
NLP is pleased to announce that, as part of their commitment to a more sustainable future, they have partnered with Net Zero Now, a leading carbon accounting and climate action platform.
Over the years, they have taken several steps to reduce their carbon footprint, including implementing eco-friendly office policies such as minimising paper waste, adopting digital accounting solutions, and prioritising sustainable procurement practices. Additionally, they have introduced greener alternatives for bulk stationery orders where possible and taken measures to reduce the number of contractor visits to their sites to further lower their environmental impact.
To support this goal, they are gathering insights to better understand the needs and preferences of those they work with, enabling them to develop effective strategies for reducing their environmental impact.
NLP is committed to the journey of reaching net zero and will continue to take practical steps to reduce their impact on the environment.
