Asia Pacific conference highlights: Connections, Collaboration, and Culture

Last week we had the pleasure of welcoming many of our members to the vibrant city of Cebu in the Philippines for our Asia Pacific Annual Conference. With delegates joining from across the region, and several members from Europe, it was a truly international event.

The theme of this year’s conferences is ‘Growth Engines’ focusing on specific areas we can drive impact within the Association for you, our members, and our chosen client and social communities.

We were honoured to host a number of distinguished external speakers including Councillor Jose Abellanosa from the Mayor of Cebu's Municipal Office who provided a welcome address. We were delighted to have Chun Wee Chiew from ACCA return to take us through an insightful session on Leading in a Resource-Strapped World. We also heard from Dr. Noe Quinanola, the Chair of the Philippine Board of Accountancy, who spoke on regional growth, and Noman Nasrullah of Funverks Global Management Consultancy LLC, who delivered an engaging and interactive workshop on disruption and leadership. We also welcomed Mr. B. Grant L. Cheng from Cebu Landmasters Inc., who led a session in the audit and ESG breakout group.

Further to previous conference feedback, many of the sessions were led by members – allowing delegates to learn from their peers, and to give members the opportunity to showcase their expertise and activity. The agenda included updates from the Global Office on the different initiatives and activities happening within the Association, including an update on Project Kairos and the progress to launching the Global Strategy at the World Conference in São Paulo, Brazil. There was also an introduction to the Morison Global China Desk Growth Engine.

As always, the professional programme was complemented by a lively social agenda. Delegates enjoyed sampling Filipino specialties at Fina Restaurant, an afternoon yachting trip around Cebu’s coastline, and a memorable gala dinner to close the event in style.
Thanks to host firms, Villaruz and Villaruz CPAs and Luis Cañete & Company for their excellent support and assistance in organising this conference. Thanks to all our conference speakers (all listed in the thank you page on page 22). One of the key goals of our conferences is to give members the opportunity to network, build new relationships, and strengthen existing ones within the Association. Cebu was a wonderful example of this in action! Our Morison members not only share strong professional connections but also genuine friendships - something truly unique and at the very heart of Morison’s DNA.
