Normita Villaruz

Professional role and expertise

Normita has been a practising Certified Public Accountant for more than 35 years. She is the Founder and Managing Partner of their firm, Villaruz, Villaruz & Co., CPAs (VVC). Normita has expertise in business assurance, accounting, tax reporting and compliance, business consulting and other related professional services. The firm which started with only two 2 employees has now grown into more than 80 employees, even higher than before the pandemic.

A strong believer in the virtues of excellence, hard work, commitment, dedication, patience and perseverance, the firm now has a varied client base that includes telecommunication companies, financing companies, trading, real estate and construction companies, computer software and PEZA and other eco zones – registered manufacturing companies, project management and consultancy firms, regional headquarters and representative offices, manpower training and recruitment companies, solar and biofuel companies, foundation and non-stock, non-profit organizations, among others.

Normita has held leadership positions and has received awards for her active participation in their professional associations, including:

  • President of the Philippine Institute of Certified Public Accountants or PICPA Eastern Metro Manila Chapter (EMMC), where she received the Outstanding Chapter President Award and the Hall of Fame Award for the Chapter during her Presidency
  • Chairman of the PICPA Metro Manila Geographical Area Office (GAO), where she received an Outstanding Leadership Award
  • PICPA National Vice President for Public Practice, where she received a Presidential Award; and

She has also received multiple awards for her exemplary and significant contribution to the Accountancy profession.

Normita is an active volunteer evaluator of the Philippine Council for NGO Certification (PCNC) since 2003 and was recognized and awarded for evaluating at least 50 NGOs last June 24, 2019. As Vice Chairman of the Social Involvement Committee of the Financial Executives of the Philippines, she participated in giving free seminars on Simple Accounting and Bookkeeping for Small Entrepreneurs and led her Firm’s Partners and Officers in Volunteer Teaching Activities as trainers on Consuelo Chito Madrigal Foundation Inc.’s (CCMFI) Payatas Out of School Youth & Mothers to learn simple Accounting and Bookkeeping. She is also an active Member of the Board of Trustees / Council of Elders of Buklod ng Pag-ibig Foundation, Inc., a Catholic Charismatic Community gifted with the charism of healing and is currently the Elder in Charge of the Shepherding Ministry.

Morison Global

Normita’s firm joined Morison Global in 2003. As a member of Morison Global, Normita has attended many international conferences in Asia Pacific. On March 8, 2021, Normita was one of the panellists of Morison Global International Women’s Day. She also participated as a speaker in the Asia Pacific Virtual Conference about the discussion on “Living Agility” in November 2020.

In November 2023, Normita was elected Chair of the Morison Global Asia Pacific Board of Directors, a position she currently holds and where she aims to further strengthen the collaborative efforts of all Morison Global members.

Education and qualifications

Normita received her Bachelor of Science in Business Administration degree majoring in Accounting, Cum Laude from the University of the East, Manila and passed the CPA board examination shortly thereafter. She took her master’s in business administration (MBA-UG) at the Ateneo Graduate School of Business (AGSB).

In June 2016, she graduated from the Strategic Business Economics Program (SBEP) – with a Master’s in Economics (pending thesis) at the University of Asia & The Pacific. She attended various short courses at the Asian Institute of Management on Project Management and Enterprise-Wide Risk Management Program. Short courses at the Institute of Corporate Directors Program on Corporate Governance Orientation, Policy Module, Monitoring and Accountability Module, and Board Oversight and Accountability. During the pandemic, she passed and obtained a partial scholarship with Harvard Business School Executive Education (HBSEA) and completed a 3-week virtual course on “Strategic Agility for Turbulent Times” (SATV) from September 10-24, 2020.

In July 2024, Normita was conferred with Honoris Causa Doctorate Award (Ph.D.) in Business Administration by The Thames International University at The University Alumni Meet & Award Distribution Ceremony in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, for her remarkable contribution and achievements in business.
